Meta description too short or too long
Like titles, meta descriptions get cut off past a length search engines can't display (roughly 150–160 characters depending on pixel width and device). Descriptions that are too short don't use the available space to make the case for a click.
Why it matters
A truncated description can end mid-sentence or cut the part that would have convinced someone to click. Too-short descriptions look sparse next to fuller competitor snippets in the results page.
How to fix it
- Target roughly 120–160 characters: enough to be persuasive, short enough to avoid a mid-sentence cutoff.
- Put the strongest, most specific claim early, before any truncation point.
- Proofread the truncated version — check how it actually renders in a search result, not just the raw text.
