Near-duplicate content
Near-duplicate pages aren't identical, but share so much boilerplate or repeated text that search engines treat them as substantially the same content — a common pattern on templated product/location/category pages that only swap a name or a few details.
Why it matters
Search engines can filter near-duplicates from search results entirely, or rank one and suppress the rest, meaning near-duplicate pages you built to target different keywords may never actually compete for them.
How to fix it
- Add genuinely unique content to each page — specific details that don't apply to the others in the cluster.
- If pages truly serve the same purpose, consolidate them into one stronger page instead of several thin variants.
- For programmatically generated pages (locations, categories), invest in unique data points per page, not just template variables.
