Orphan page
An orphan page is listed in your sitemap.xml — meaning you're telling search engines it exists and should be indexed — but isn't linked from any other page on your site. There's no internal path a crawler (or a real visitor) could take to reach it by browsing.
Why it matters
Orphan pages get comparatively little crawl attention and accumulate no internal link equity, since internal links are one of the main ways authority flows around a site. They're also invisible to visitors browsing normally, not just to crawlers.
How to fix it
- Add at least one relevant internal link to the page from related content, navigation, or a hub/category page.
- If the page genuinely shouldn't be discoverable by browsing, reconsider whether it belongs in the sitemap at all.
- Check for orphans after any site restructure or nav redesign — pages easily get cut off from linking during a redesign.
